Books Read in 2006
Topic: Books

For what it's worth, here is a list of some of the books I've read this year (at least those worth remembering):

-POINT TO POINT NAVIGATION by Gore Vidal
-CLOUDS AND ECLIPSES by Gore Vidal
-GRIEF by Andrew Holleran
-THE CORONER'S LUNCH by Colin Cotterill

-THIS SWEET SICKNESS by Patricia Highsmith
-THE AMBASSADORS by Henry James
-THE PAINTED VEIL by W. Somerset Maugham (I didn't know at the time that they were making this into a movie -- it was a great novel, so as usual I am looking forward to the movie but with trepidation ...)
-THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE by Philip K. Dick
-CITY by Clifford D. Simak
-PLUNDER OF THE SUN by David Dodge
-DON'T LOOK NOW by Daphne DuMaurier
-THE DEMOLISHED MAN by Alfred Bester
-CELL by Stephen King
-IMPERIAL EARTH by Arthur C. Clarke

Currently Reading ...
Topic: Books

Currently reading THE MASTER AND MARGARITA by Mikhail Bulgakov in the translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky ... in a really nifty "Penguin Red Classic" edition from the UK that I bought here in Toronto (www.penguinbooks.co.uk/reds).  Had previously read a much earlier translation (late 1960s) -- not the one by Mirra Ginsburg but one by someone else whose name escapes me (currently available in a Plume/Meridian edition in US).  One of the best novels of all time, and sheer joy in this translation.  I hope it never ends ...
